COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is a critical analysis of how media shape and are shaped by the structures of Philippine and global society. At the end of this course, learners shall be equipped with the lenses and methodologies from which they can view media and society, gearing up their scholarship of media.

COURSE LEARNINGS OUTCOMES

     At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1.       Build cases demonstrating the effects of past and present structures to media;

2.       Construct strong papers showing how socio-political and economic forces shape media;

3.       Compile evidence of media shaping society;

4.       Formulate relevant generalizations on the role of media in cultural and societal change;

5.       Create a strong case that users are inadvertently losing control of their media consumption in an algorithm-driven environment.
