COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the students to basic qualitative research methodology in sociology. The broad aim of the course is to explain the principles and demonstrate the use of qualitative research in sociology. At the end of the course, students must be able to craft a qualitative research design for a relevant topic as a way of preparing them for higher levels of training in research methodology and undergraduate thesis writing.
The course aims to inculcate in the students to the logic and acuities needed to perform an ethical, sound, and critical qualitative sociological research. The course provides discussions and practice of basic standards in carrying out, generating, and analyzing qualitative data. In these class activities, issues in using various techniques shall be identified and scrutinized to enable students to make skillful and ethical decisions.

BA Sociology graduates are critical and reflexive thinkers and socially-responsive citizens who appreciate the interconnections between their own circumstances and broader national, regional and global trends. In this context, they should be able to:
explain and apply sociological concepts and theories in analyzing social realities and making sense of continuities and changes in the world;
analyze, evaluate, and explore interdisciplinary ways to address social problems and issues through relevant undertakings with other possible stakeholders;
apply research skills and sociological perspectives in designing, implementing, and assessing programs and projects in academic, government, corporate, development, or other settings in ways that uphold ethical standards;
communicate research findings and ideas effectively with broad publics; and
assess needs and pursue possibilities for further learning and skills development.
