Historiographic evaluation of historical works on the Philippines from the 16th century to the present.

Course Objectives:

  1. Examine and evaluate the perspectives, approaches to, and interpretations of, Philippine history by Filipinos and foreigners writing about our past, drawing from histories and accounts written since the 16th century.
  1. Locate these works in their historical context, taking account of the individual and socio-political factors that shaped their authors’ perspectives.
  1. Weigh the impact of these works on the study and writing of Philippine history; and
  1. Consider issues and areas of debate in the study and writing of Philippine history.
