Historiographic evaluation of historical works on the Philippines from the 16th century to the present.
Course Objectives:
- Examine and evaluate the perspectives, approaches to, and interpretations of, Philippine history by Filipinos and foreigners writing about our past, drawing from histories and accounts written since the 16th century.
- Locate these works in their historical context, taking account of the individual and socio-political factors that shaped their authors’ perspectives.
- Weigh the impact of these works on the study and writing of Philippine history; and
- Consider issues and areas of debate in the study and writing of Philippine history.
