Philippine Studies 201 is an analysis of the Philippines as a complex society and polity within the context of socio-cultural, developmental and political trends in the Asia Pacific region.
In the course of the semester, the student should be able to:
1. Trace the early linkages with and cultural impact of other Asian peoples on Philippines;
2. Expound on some key characteristics of Philippine political institutions, development strategies and cultural/ideological dispositions as they have developed over time, and in the context of regional and global developments;
3. Compare and contrast Philippine political, developmental and sociocultural attributes with those of other Asian countries, drawing implications for the Philippines and for Philippines-Asia relations;
4. Define a related research agenda of personal interest for further studies.
