Course Description

The course explores the three major climatic elements - sun, wind and water - and how people regulate and protect themselves. The controlled manipulation of their environment, both natural and built structures, is primarily to achieve thermal comfort.

Course Learning Outcomes

This course aims to give a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between people and climate in the context of architecture, particularly for tropical countries in South East Asia and other regions. At the end of the course the student is expected to:
    • develop an understanding of how climate affect people and their architecture
    • identify the different factors that contribute to thermal comfort in a given space
    • develop their skill in assessment of thermal comfort of spaces
