The transportation system is one of the major components of the tourism industry. It is very hard to think of tourism without transportation. The nation’s transportation system and the tourism industry significantly impact the country’s economy. This course looks at all modes of transportation: active transport, land transport (road-based and public transportation and rail), water transport, and air transport, and provides an overview of the corresponding infrastructure and system of operations.
A tourist destination's transportation system impacts the tourism experience, which explains how people travel and why they choose different forms of holiday, destination, and transport. The improvement in transportation modes plus low fares has increased the accessibility of areas once considered off-the-beaten-path. Access to tourist sites varies per the nature of the site, the state of infrastructure, and the efficiency of the public transport system.
