The advent of space technology modernized the concept and methods of geodetic surveying. The widespread use of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) technology in positioning, navigation and timing led to the institution of this course. In addition, new space technologies and methods that led to better accuracy in the determination of the size and shape of the earth, are introduced.
The course introduces the students to the modern ways of geodetic surveying using space technology. Satellite positioning using GNSS technology, including related mathematical formulation leading to the solutions is emphasized based on its relevance to the geodetic surveying field.
