OVERVIEW

This course introduces archaeology as a discipline and takes students into a journey through time from a global, archaeological lens. The approach taken looks at relationships and connections rather than isolated details and should encourage students to reflect on what it means to be human from the perspective of our archaeological legacy and heritage. Subject to opportunities, the course will also allow students to further appreciate archaeology and the study of the past through activities outside the classroom and hands on sessions.

OUTCOMES

Upon completing the course, the student must be able to:

• Discuss the importance of archaeological heritage in the modern world

• Explain how archaeological remains can be used to reconstruct the human past

• Explain the major shifts in human culture based on archaeological remains

• Analyse archaeological approaches and procedures in examining past human cultures based on material remains
