This course integrates concepts from human physiology, biochemistry, nutritional assessment, and nutrition throughout the life cycle to provide individualized nutritional therapy with consideration for the effect of concurrent medical treatment. Knowledge and skills gained from this course are necessary for the completion of the hospital dietetics internship in the senior year. This is a highly technical course and students are expected to read and understand the references prior to listening to the lectures and completing laboratory activities.
In preparation for the hospital dietetics internship, students in this course will be exposed to the implementation of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) through coordinated activities with the Nutrition Clinic of the College. In this remote learning version, students will be asked to prepare the preliminary ADIME (Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring and Evaluation) reports prior to online nutrition counseling sessions.
