This course sets the basic framework of service to the community and the Filipino people as the basis for all NSTP component courses. It emphasizes the UP values of honor and excellence in the service of the people, and is consistent with the principles embodied in the NSTP IRR of 2009

This National Service Training Program-Civil Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWATS) 1 and 2 has an allotted time of 54 – 90 hours. For this mid-year course, the first two weeks are for NSTP 1 lectures and some workshops. This common module phase focuses on citizenship training, drug education, disaster awareness, preparedness, and management; environmental protection; and other national security concerns.   The last two to three weeks are for NSTP -CWATS2 is more of a class activity, embodying volunteerism and community engagement. NSTP-CWATS 2 classes are mainly concerned with community engagement with the help of partner communities and organizations. This highlights the class project development, evaluation (both for peers and partners), and implementation.
